Weddings That Pop!

When the very talented and imaginative, Richard O’Malley, called and asked if I had ever made a balloon wedding dress, I knew that this was going to be something I would not be able to turn down. As an event professional for over 20 years, Richard has run the gamut on wedding styles and designs and he wanted to produce something new and exciting. Having heard that all weddings looked the same and that there was nothing unique or inspirational to set them apart, Richard came up with the idea of “Weddings that POP,” a photoshoot that would test the edge of wedding traditions.

With the help of Twisted Balloon’s fashionista, Tawney Bubbles, we went to work on creating some of our most amazing balloon wedding and bridesmaid dresses. So, if balloon wedding and bridesmaid dresses weren’t enough; makeup artist Riki Frankel and hair stylist Michelle LoConte made the models look absolutely stunning with over the top eye makeup and strong lips to go along with high drama hair.  A fun and funky wedding dress made of balloons, could not be completed without a fun and fresh metal bouquet of flowers by Pennylyn Kaine, of Blossom and Bee. And even though having a balloon wedding dress may not be traditional, some traditional brides may wish to incorporate something new in their wedding and the custom-made jewelry by Lynn Crimaldi, of Creations by Lynn which complemented the dresses perfectly. The entire photoshoot could not have been completed without a talented photographer and amazing venue. Photographer Lauren Elle was chosen by Richard after going through 35 photographers, Lauren’s eye led with an edge and that was exactly what Richard was looking for. The venue, PURE, a premier event space in South Amboy, NJ lent to the modern non-traditional feel that this photoshoot required.

Richard wanted to give brides the freedom to think outside of the box when planning their weddings and not to get caught up in tradition. Perhaps not all women will be ordering balloon wedding gowns, but this was an amazing experience and allowed us to work with other talented artists to create something that truly “POPS!”
