Alice in Istanbul

There is a place. Like no place on Earth. A land full of wonder, mystery, and danger! Some say to survive it: You need to be as mad as a hatter. –  The Mad Hatter

Todd just came back from twisting balloons in Istanbul! In early September, Todd travelled with Larry & Kelly of Airigami-fame to Istanbul, Turkey. We created a massive Alice in Wonderland exhibit at the Palladium Shopping Mall in Atasehir.  Todd, Larry, Kelly, and Michael Abramson (the famous Irish twister!) and a group of local student spent five days inflating and twisting balloons. By the end of the week, #AliceInIstanbul was ready.

The installation was one hundred feet long and five stories high and used tens of thousands of Qualatex balloons. Elements included Alice sitting under a tree with the Lewis Carroll classic tucked under her arms, the room where Alice has the choice to “drink me” or not, the garden where mushrooms loomed 3 stories high over visitors, and the Mad Hatter Tea Party.

It’s difficult to capture the scope of this exhibit with a photo, so Airigami published a time-lapse build. Please check it out:
